TUESDAY OCT 3rd LOS ANGELES by Luke Bencivengo
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES is and always has been a scene. Tuesday night, last minute show, Jamie called said she’s got an extra ticket and afterparty information to Gus Dapperton at The Bellwether. Im there.
Its been a while since I last heard Gus Dapperton. I remember “Im just snacking” and it brought me back to an amazing time in my life. Im a sucker for nostalgic music. Anyway, I checked back in on the way to the concert. I didn’t recognize any of the songs but was surprised to see he certainly has gained a following. I found out later from my girlfriend that he had gone viral on tik tok with one of his songs, “Supalonely” by BENEE.
Anyway, the show was right on time. We missed the opener (oops) and he got right into it with his Henge Tour favorites.
One thing about me is I understand the idea of tracks. Backing tracks specifically. They are a great tool for live shows, syncing lights and allowing electronic music to fill out the sound of the room. BUT, yes theres a little but… I really really enjoy Gus Dapperton’s unique voice and song-style but i felt like he was using the vocal tracks a little too much. Just my opinion.
Anyway, the band was incredible and the concert was great all around. Good sound, cool new venue, he looked natural and fresh up there on stage even having played that set probably 6 times in the last 7 days. Good on ya Gus. Mighty Dapper.
Love, love, love it
