I CRIED… There has always been something special about Daniel Caesar. His voice is amazingly new, his lyrics resonate with literally everybody and his music as a whole will make you wanna text your crush immediately. His latest album Never Enough is so much more than enough. I feel like he has found his voice and is so comfortable in his own space. Let’s dive in.
The album starts off with “Ocho Rio” and just runs the amazing Daniel Caesar vibe. Produced by Badbadnotgood the song hits hard and right in the gushy stuff from the start. An incredible guitar solo gives you the Tame Impala feel mixed with Pink Floyd and RnB. Literally so many flavors.
Next “Valentina” starts with an incredible ethereal sounding intro, but when the beat comes in its actually not my favorite and I tend to skip this one… sorry. Then “Toronto 2014” is a homage to where he is from. Yeah, you guessed it, Toronto… it focuses on his voice mainly but the verse is as if his voice is strained, almost with tears in his eyes, then when the chorus lands, clouds clear he’s back to that silky smooth Daniel we know so well. Even has hints of that synth-sound that starts off “Valentina” in the background.
The rest of the album takes you on a journey of heavenly chords, over sultry lyrics and intense harmonies. “Let Me Go” gets you feeling some type of way as you’re transported to outer-space.
The next 2 are some of my favorites. “Do You Like Me” followed by “Always”. So with “Do You Like Me”, he starts so perfectly with his vocals playing the harmonies and melodies perfectly over a sweet sexy and simple bass and drum beat. Its faster but still makes you just sit back in the groove. Then “Always”. I cried when I listened to it for the first time. I was prepping for an interesting time in my life and was just blown away by the songs simple yet complex structure. In my mind it is the perfect song. Like a new “Dont Know Why” by Norah Jones. I can’t wait to see what my Spotify Wrapped says about it…
I guess Im going to say, I loved this whole album. Go give this album some attention while you’re giving your loved one some love and affection. Turn the lights down, open wine, and just set the perfect mood. You won’t regret it.
